Fall Off the Bone Ribs

'Fall off the bone' is a common phrased used to describe extremely tender ribs that easy fall off the bone--namely, you can pull the bone out of the ribs with ease. These ribs tend to have the juiciest flavors especially if they have been smoked. The only real way to achieve this is by making the collagen and fat to break down which happens between 190 and 205 degrees F without drying up the meat. Furthermore, the only way to get fall off the bone ribs is by slow cooking it.

Slow Cooking Ribs

There are a couple options when it comes to slow cooking ribs, but the two most popular ones are to do it in an oven or a smoker. Obviously, cooking low and slow in a smoker will lead to better textures and flavors because of how unique the process is, but given it is not as accessible as an oven, we decided to focus on the liberties of cooking it low and slow in a kitchen oven.

Homemade McRib Recipe

Prep Time: 20 Minutes

Cook Time: 4 Hours 15 Minutes

Total Time: 4 Hours 35 Minutes

Servings:  4-6

Ingredients
  • 1 Rack of Baby Back Pork Ribs
  • 2 Cups Loubier Gourmet Hot or Mild BBQ Sauce
  • ½ Cup Loubier Gourmet Hot or Mild Chipotle Seasoning
  • Coleslaw (Find the Recipe Here)
  • 6 French Hoagie Rolls
Directions
  • Step 1
Preheat your oven to 275 degrees F.
  • Step 2
It is important that you peel the membrane off the bottom of your rack of ribs. This will ensure you end up with “fall off the bone” ribs.
  • Step 3
Once you have successfully peeled the membrane off, season your ribs with salt, pepper, and Loubier Gourmet Hot or Mild Chipotle Seasoning.
  • Step 4
Place your ribs in a glass tray or baking sheet, make sure it is wrapped in aluminum foil, and throw it all in your oven to cook for 4 hours.
  • Step 5
Feel free to make your coleslaw while your ribs are slow cooking. You can find our delicious coleslaw recipe here.
  • Step 6
Once your ribs have hit that 4 hour mark, take them out, remove the aluminum foil, and coat both sides with Loubier Gourmet BBQ Sauce. I personally mixed both our Hot and Mild for the best flavor!
  • Step 7
Throw your ribs back into the oven, and broil them on high without any foil covering them for 5 minutes, or on low for 10 minutes.
  • Step 8
Once they are done broiling, they are ready to come off the bone! The bone should come out with little effort. Once you have taken the bones out, cut the pork to fit the buns, add more Loubier Gourmet BBQ Sauce and your coleslaw (find the recipe here), and….
  • Step 9
    Enjoy :)
